Back Pain That Won't Slow You Down
Your back tightens up by the end of the workday. It flares the day after a big lift or a long hike. You stretch it, it feels fine for twenty minutes, and then it's right back. And every clinic you've tried so far has told you the same thing: rest it, take it easy, avoid the things that aggravate it.
That's not a plan. That's a pause button — and you don't have to hit it.
At True North Physical Therapy, we don't just look at your back. We look at the whole chain — hips, glutes, core, and the way you actually move under load — to find out why your back is doing the complaining in the first place. Then we build a plan that lets you keep training, lifting, hiking, or working through a full day while it heals.
Why Your Back Pain Keeps Coming Back
A lot of times, back pain isn't actually a back problem. The back is stuck picking up the slack for a hip that isn't extending fully or glutes that aren't firing under load. If nobody's assessed the full chain, you can stretch and rest for months and still feel the same tightness the moment you get back to real activity.
Here's how to tell if that's what's going on with you:
● Your pain reliably returns whenever activity increases — a harder workout, a long hike, a busy stretch at work
● It shows up in more than one place — back, hip, sometimes even the knee — rather than staying in one clean spot
● It changes with different shoes or surfaces, which points to a movement and loading issue, not a structural one
● You've been told it's “just arthritis” or “just getting older” with no further explanation
● Stretching gives you real relief — for about twenty minutes, then it's back
If two or more of those sound familiar, the missing piece usually isn't more stretching. It's finding out why your back is being asked to do work it wasn't built for — and that's exactly what we build differently.
Common Reasons Patients Come to Us With Back Pain
● Recurring low back tightness or spasm that flares with activity, then eases, then returns
● Lower back pain that shows up after long periods of sitting or standing at work
● Pain with lifting, deadlifting, or bending that's been chalked up to “bad form” without a real movement assessment
● Sciatic-type pain or tingling running into the glute or leg
● Degenerative disc or facet changes on imaging, with a provider unsure what to do next
● Postural back pain and stiffness from desk work or long drives
● Back pain in runners and hikers that flares with mileage or elevation
No diagnosis required to start. If you're not sure what's going on, that's exactly what the assessment is for.
What Happens at Your First Visit
You'll get a full-chain movement assessment — not just a back poke-and-prod. We'll look at your hip extension, your glute activation, your core control under load, and how you actually move when you bend, lift, or sit for long periods. Then we'll talk through what you've already tried and why it didn't stick, and build a plan of care around your actual goals — whether that's lifting pain-free again, getting through a full workday without the tightness, or making it through a long hike without it flaring.
No referral needed. No insurance runaround. Just a clear plan before you leave.
