Hip Pain That Won't Slow You Down

Your hip clicks when you rotate. It pinches at the bottom of a squat. It aches after a long run or a long day on your feet. And every clinic you've tried so far has told you the same thing: rest it, stretch it, back off the activities that trigger it.

That's not a plan. That's a pause button — and you don't have to hit it.

At True North Physical Therapy, we don't just look at your hip. We look at the whole chain — spine, pelvis, glutes, and the way you actually move — to find out why your hip is doing the complaining in the first place. Then we build a plan that lets you keep training, running, lifting, or hiking while it heals.

Why Your Hip Pain Keeps Coming Back

A lot of times, hip pain gets written off as “just tight” or “just arthritis” — and the plan stops at stretching. What we find is that hip pain almost always falls into one of three patterns, and each one needs a different fix:
● A click or snap — usually a tendon or band sliding over the hip bone. Often harmless, but it's your body flagging a mechanical imbalance worth addressing before it becomes something more.
● A sharp pinch at the front of the hip, especially at the bottom of a squat or deep hip flexion — this is a mobility and positioning issue, not a sign your hip is damaged.
● A lingering, deep ache in the front of the hip or groin — usually driven by glute weakness asking the hip flexor to do work it wasn't built for.

Stretching might calm any of these down for twenty minutes. It doesn't fix the mechanical reason your hip is working overtime. That's the missing link — and it's exactly what we build differently.

Common Reasons Patients Come to Us With Hip Pain

● Snapping hip syndrome — a click or pop with rotation, walking, or getting up from a chair
● Front-of-hip pinching at squat depth (often called hip impingement or FAI)
● Hip flexor tendinopathy — a deep, lingering ache from glute weakness overloading the front of the hip
● Gluteal tendinopathy or lateral hip pain (pain on the outside of the hip, worse lying on that side)
● Labral irritation without full-blown structural damage
● Hip pain in runners, lifters, and CrossFitters that flares with volume or intensity
● Hip arthritis in active adults who still want to hike, golf, lift, or play pickleball

No diagnosis required to start. If you're not sure what's going on, that's exactly what the assessment is for.

What Happens at Your First Visit

You'll get a full-chain movement assessment — not just a hip poke-and-prod. We'll look at your squat pattern, your glute activation, your hip rotation, and how your spine and pelvis move together, then talk through what you've already tried and why it didn't stick. From there, we build a plan of care around your actual goals — whether that's squatting pain-free again, getting back to full mileage, or just standing up from a chair without that pinch.

No referral needed. No insurance runaround. Just a clear plan before you leave.
